Word Problem Wednesday: Birdfeeders

By Mathnasium | Added Feb 22, 2017

Spring is just around the corner.  Flowers will soon be blooming, critters will be stirring from hibernation holes, and birds will be looking for feeders… such “peckish” little creatures!

See if you can solve this week’s bird feeder word problem and check back tomorrow for the answer.  (You never know when you might need to apply these calculations for your own bird feeder building efforts!)

It takes Derek 25 minutes to build one bird feeder.  If he needs to build seven bird feeders and has already finished three, how much longer will it take Derek to finish the bird feeders?

Update:  Here's the solution!

It will take Derek 1 hour and 40 minutes longer to finish the bird feeders.  Derek needs to build 7 bird feeders in total and has already made 3 of them.  That means he has 7 - 3 = 4 left to build.  Each bird feeder takes 25 minutes, so the remaining bird feeders will take Derek 25 minutes x 4 = 100 minutes (or 1 hour and 40 minutes) to finish.
