Underscores Critical Role After-School Math Education Plays for Students Looking to Succeed

Mathnasium, the nation’s leading math-only learning center franchise, announced today that it has opened a record 100 new learning centers in 2013 and, for the first time, taught more than 1 million student sessions in a single year.

Mathnasium’s rapid growth this year underscores the critical role after-school math education has come to play for students and parents alike. Children come to Mathnasium either to address difficulties they are having with math or to participate in advanced study so they can remain challenged and further excel in their classes. Both groups of students understand the importance of math education for success in college and beyond.

"Mathnasium’s rapid growth, demonstrated by the 100 new learning centers we opened in 2013, underscores the growing importance of math education to our young people and the challenges they face getting what they need in school alone. Indeed, the recently announced PISA test results of 15-year-old students showed U.S. math skills to be below the average for OECD nations. Mathnasium instructors know how to teach math in a way that children truly understand and are dedicated to moving our students back to the head of the class," said Peter Markovitz, Chief Executive Officer of Mathnasium.

Mathnasium today has a total of 431 learning centers in operation in North America and opened a record 100 new centers this year. In addition, Mathnasium centers have taught more than 1.1 million distinct student sessions thus far in 2013, the first time in the company’s history it has exceeded 1 million student sessions.
